The Crusaders opened their first home game of the season against the Augusta Eagles at Columbia International University. The Eagles quickly took the lead after the tip off as the Crusaders scrambled to defend their home court. The Eagles led most of the 1st half, but Marcellus Dunn tied the game with a slam dunk fed by an alley thrown by Anton Greer. The next play, Dunn drew a foul and went to the line, hitting 1 of 2 to give the Crusaders their first lead of the game at 54-55 just before half-time. However, before the horn, the Eagles were able to steal back the lead, finishing the half at 58-57.
The Crusaders returned in the second half with relentless energy and led by Crusader "original" Ivan Vernon who contributed acrobatic put backs and influential defensive stops to gain momentum for the Crusaders. Vernon is returning to the Crusaders and was one of the key players during the inaugural season in the spring of 2014.
The game continued into a back and forth in the third as the Eagles tried to contain the energy of the Crusaders. Late in the quarter Sam Dotson took a charge to gain possession. Jarvis Jackson helped finish the play with a baseline drive and kick to Chris Spriggs on the wing for the three! The Crusaders would carry on to pull away from the Eagles and seal their 2-0 record with a 137-120 score.
